Winter Weather Update 1/16/24

Update for Texas Members:

We were not able to find a physical reason as to why the power was blinking off and on. This indicates that the issue was likely due to the demand being too high. We have re-routed two substations to the emergency feed from SWEPCO in an attempt to lessen the load at the Blocker substation.

It’s crucial that all of our members do their part conserve energy.

A few ways to conserve energy during extreme cold:

  1. Dress warmly and use more blankets to keep warm, especially at night.
  2. Open blinds, shades, or drapes during the daylight to allow the sun to warm your home.
  3. Turn off lights, appliances, and electronics off in rooms that you aren’t using.
  4. If you have a wood burning or gas fireplace, use it as a source of heat. Please use your fireplace safely.
  5. Put blankets or towels around doors and windows to keep the cold air from entering.
  6. Turn your thermostat down if you are on electric heat.
  7. Turn down your water heater temperature

Not only will this help reduce the load, but you will thank yourself when it’s time to pay your next electric bill. Saving energy is saving money.

If you are still having power blinks, or you are without power currently, please re-report your outage.
